ALOITA RESORT IS JUST WHAT THE MENTAWAIS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR

FROM SSI EDUCATION SYSTEM:

TRY SCUBA: Try Scuba is an orientation to diving that allows non-divers to experience diving in a pool or open water, under the direct supervision of a dive leader, with a minimal amount of instruction and classroom time. The academic session focuses on the immediate needs of divers such as equipment adjustment, equalizing pressure, breathing, moving through the water and orientation. So you can start diving as soon as possible,

you'll practice a reduced skill set with SSI's Comfort Through Repetition teaching method in a pool/confined water session. With the goal being to develop a working knowledge of scuba equipment, divers will receive an introduction to basic scuba equipment with an emphasis on equipment handling.

SNORKELING: SSI's Snorkel Diver program is full of tips and advice to help make snorkeling easier and more fun. In the academic session, you will be introduced to snorkeling equipment including: the mask, fins, snorkel and boots. Double your pleasure by learning how to get into and out of the water, how to move in the water with ease and how to identify beautiful fish. OPEN WATER DIVER: Diving offers a lifetime of exciting adventure and the ideal way to begin that adventure is with SSI's Open Water Diver course. Under the guidance of a professional SSI Instructor, you will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enjoy a lifetime of underwater exploration. SSI's modular, six-session teaching system includes a video, manual, study guide, DiveLog and dive tables. And with SSI's home study approach, you will be able to minimize your time in the classroom allowing for more time in the water developing ability and comfort. In multiple pool and open water sessions, you will practice scuba skills with SSI's exclusive Comfort Through Repetition teaching method. Some of the skills you will learn include: Moving in the water with ease. Breathing normally under water. Controlling buoyancy so you neither descend nor ascend. SPECIALTIES: Specialty activities introduce certified divers to a whole new world of diving opportunities. Learning is easy. You can purchase SSI Specialty manuals and videos from your SSI Authorized Dealer. Then enroll in a specialty course, because it is recommended that you practice specialized scuba skills with an SSI Advanced Instructor.
Using the SSI education system you will learn the information about specific types of specialty diving that would take you years of diving to learn on your own. Under the guidance of an SSI Instructor, you will learn the correct skills and techniques associated with the specialties of your choice to make you a more comfortable and confident diver. You will learn how to use an expanded range of equipment to help you make your dives more enjoyable and worthwhile. SSI Specialty Courses: Boat Diving, Computer Diving, Deep Diving, Diver Stress & Rescue, Dry Suit Diving, Enriched Air Nitrox, Equipment Techniques, Navigation, Night & Limited Visibility Diving, Search & Recovery, Underwater Photography, Waves, Tides & Currents, Wreck Diving, Unique Specialties (written by SSI Instructors).

STRESS & RESCUE: Diver Stress & Rescue is the next course recommended after Open Water Diver, because it helps you gain confidence and makes you a better buddy. You will learn the signs of stress, and how to deal with stress in yourself and other divers before the dive, during the dive and after the dive. Also, you will learn about different personality types and the common actions of each type in stressful situations. You will learn skills and techniques to help you and other divers prevent and overcome common stressors associated with diving. You will also learn self aid and buddy aid skills for potentially stressful and/or rescue situations. You will learn about how your equipment can help you to stay relaxed and enjoy every dive, what equipment is required in various rescue situations and how to use your equipment properly in the event of a rescue.

DIVE CONTROL SPECIALIST: SSI Dive Control Specialist is SSI's initial dive leadership level and is considered by many as the "fun" leadership rating. That's because you can do more than any other entry-level dive leader. You can do more because you receive both dive master and assistant instructor training in the SSI Dive Control Specialist course. With other agencies, these courses are separate.

As a Dive Control Specialist you can:

  • Work on dive boats, at resorts and retail stores, and take people diving
  • Lead dive trips and tours
  • Assist SSI Instructors in the pool and open water
  • Teach skills in the pool under the direct supervision of an SSI Instructor
  • Teach the SSI Scuba Skills Update program
  • Teach the SSI Snorkeling program
  • Teach selected SSI Specialty courses
  • Teach selected First Aid and CPR programs

Teach Scuba Rangers (after completing the Scuba Rangers Instructor training). You will study advanced physics, physiology and decompression theory. You'll practice advanced rescue techniques, fine-tune your diving skills and learn the basics of teaching. Plus, there's a high demand for SSI Dive Control Specialists at retail shops and exotic resorts.

SCUBA SKILLS UPDATE: Recapture that feeling of total confidence by updating the diving skills you learned in your Open Water Diver course. Your Scuba Skills Update Dive Leader will review the knowledge you learned in your Open Water Diver class as well as cover any new material. You will review dive planning, dive tables and dive execution. In the Scuba Skills Update you will have the opportunity to practice and review the scuba skills you learned in your open water diver class and learn techniques that that may have changed since you took your class. You will have the opportunity to refresh your memory and motor coordination and practice your self-aid skills, all with the guidance of a dive leader. The scuba skills update is a great opportunity to re-learn your current equipment, or the perfect time to learn about and adjust your new equipment with the guidance of a dive leader.

Rates exclude:

WHAT EVERY DIVER SHOULD KNOW: Decades of experience has taught us that there are four requirements to successful diving: proper knowledge, proper skills, proper equipment and experience.

Proper Knowledge There are certain safety rules that must be learned. With a professional teaching system (a manual, video, and study guide) you can study this information on your own. An instructor will be available for assistance.

Proper Skills You must develop ability with basic scuba skills, such as moving in the water and equipment handling. The best way to learn is from a qualified instructor at a professional scuba school. Review and practice time re inforces the skills. Proper Equipment The most comfortable, convenient and enjoyable way to dive is with your own set of properly-fitted equipment. As you become familiar with your equipment, your ability level increases. Servicing your equipment annually improves your equipment's performance, and minimizes malfunctions, which provides peace of mind.

Experience While education helps develop knowledge and skills, the key to becoming a comfortable and confident diver is simply to dive as much as possible. Your experience increases as you explore different diving locations, meet new friends, have new adventures and explore new worlds. That's why SSI's motto is "serious diving, serious fun."
