The Mentawai Islands are an archipelago of around 70 islands off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Aloita Resort is on Simakakang — a small island surrounded by white sand beaches, coral reefs, and clear water, 15 minutes by speedboat from the main port of Tua Pejat.

Your journey to Aloita

Fly to Padang (PDG)

Padang is the gateway to the Mentawais. Fly from Jakarta with Garuda, Citilink, or Pelita Air, from Kuala Lumpur with AirAsia, or from Singapore with Scoot. Plan to arrive in Padang the evening before your ferry.

Overnight in Padang

Plan to spend one night in Padang before and after your Mentawai trip. We can help arrange airport pickup, hotel recommendations, and a smooth transfer to the ferry port the following morning.

Take the Mentawai Fast Ferry
to Tua Pejat

Departures from Padang are Sundays and Mondays at 10am, and Wednesdays and Fridays at 7am. The journey takes approximately 3.5 hours.
Return ferries depart Tua Pejat at 3pm, arriving in Padang around 7pm.

Speedboat to Aloita

Our team will meet you at Tua Pejat port. From there, it's just a 15-minute speedboat ride to Aloita.

The ferry departs early in the morning, so plan to arrive in Padang the evening before and stay the night.
On the return, the ferry arrives in Padang in the evening, making an overnight stay in Padang necessary before onward flights.

A few things to keep in mind.

Travel insurance.

We recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering surfing, medical treatment, emergency evacuation, and travel disruptions. Medical facilities on the islands are limited.

Build in flexibility.

Ferry schedules are generally reliable, though occasional delays can happen. Travel insurance that covers trip disruptions is worth having — just in case.

That's part of the point.

The Mentawai Islands are remote. Getting here is part of the experience. Once you arrive, you'll understand why.

Where are the Mentawai Islands?

An archipelago off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Simakakang Island, where Aloita is located, is part of the Sipora group — about 3.5 hours from Padang by fast ferry.

What is the best time to visit?

The Mentawais can be visited year-round. April to October is generally the driest period and offers the most consistent surf conditions.

How do I get to Aloita Resort?

Fly to Padang, take the Mentawai Fast Ferry to Tua Pejat, then our speedboat to the resort. We offer a transfer package covering all logistics — see above.

What currency is used?

Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Major credit cards are accepted at the resort.

Is it safe to travel to the Mentawai Islands?

Simakakang is a small, malaria-free island with no roads and no traffic. The local hospital in Tua Pejat is just 15 minutes away by boat.

Is Aloita prepared for earthquakes?

Yes — the resort has a high-ground refuge and all staff receive real-time seismographic alerts. Travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is mandatory for surfers and recommended for all guests.

Ferry to the Mentawai Islands

The fast ferry connects Padang with Tua Pejat on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Returns on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Crossing approximately 3.5–4 hours. Surfboards travel easily on the ferry.

Luggage allowance: 15 kg, plus one board bag (15 kg) for surfers.
